The weekly rhythm recurring US releases, ET

Dates move with the calendar, but the clock rarely does. If you only remember one line: 8:30 AM ET on a Friday at the start of the month is jobs day.

News days and prop firm rules

Three ways a release can end an account even when your trade idea was fine. Every firm words these differently, so read the firm's page; the glossary explains each term.

Some firms ban trading around high-impact news

Common at CFD and forex firms: no opening or closing positions in a window (often 2 minutes) either side of a red-folder release, sometimes only on funded accounts. Futures firms usually allow it. A trade inside the window can be voided or counted as a breach. Find the exact rule on the firm's page before the week starts.

Trailing drawdowns don't wait for your stop

A spike through your stop fills where liquidity is, not where you placed it. With an intraday trailing drawdown, a wick that runs in your favor first can also lift your loss line before the reversal. Size smaller into a release or flatten before it.

Daily loss limits and consistency rules bite on news days

A news-day winner can be your biggest day of the eval, and a consistency rule then caps how much of it counts. A news-day loser can hit the daily loss limit in one candle. Both are survivable if you planned the size in advance. Use the contracts per trade calculator with a wider stop for release days.

Hours that matter

CME equity index and most futures Trade Sunday 6:00 PM ET to Friday 5:00 PM ET, with a daily maintenance break 5:00 to 6:00 PM ET. The US cash session, where most volume and most prop firm "end of day" calculations sit, is 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM ET. Holiday schedules and early closes change by the year; the exchange publishes them at cmegroup.com/trading-hours. Daylight saving changes in the US and Europe shift the London overlap by an hour twice a year.
