How to connect TradingView to a prop firm account

TradingView never holds your prop account. It plugs into the broker platform your firm gives you, which for most futures firms is Tradovate. Here is how that works at Tradeify and Lucid, why Topstep is different, and what each firm's own help center says about data and fees.

The short version

  • TradingView connects to a prop account through Tradovate. You log in with the Tradovate username and password your firm sends you, and pick Demo, not Live.
  • Tradeify: works on Tradovate-based accounts only. Tradeify says Rithmic and Tradesea accounts can't connect, and the integration is free for its users.
  • Lucid: TradingView is on Lucid's supported platform list for all account types. New traders must sign in to Tradovate first, even if they plan to trade on TradingView.
  • Topstep: TopstepX is its only platform. Its charts are built with TradingView's charting tools, but Topstep says TopstepX can't connect to an outside TradingView account.
  • Tradeify says a free TradingView account updates about every 5 seconds. Any paid TradingView plan gives fully live updates.

Platform support changes. Every step below is from the firm's or Tradovate's own help pages, read on the date shown. If your dashboard looks different, follow the firm's current page.

How the connection works

TradingView is a charting site. To place trades from its charts, it links to a broker through its Trading Panel. Futures prop firms that support TradingView do it through Tradovate: the firm opens a Tradovate login for your evaluation or funded account, and you connect that login inside TradingView.

Tradovate's own guide gives the general flow. Log in to TradingView, click Trade, pick Tradovate from the broker list, choose Live or Demo, and click Connect. Its words on prop accounts: "If you are using a prop firm/evaluation service that provides you access to TradingView, select Demo trading from the account selection screen." You are then sent to Tradovate's sign-in page, where you enter the prop firm username and password.

About the $9.99 add-on. Tradovate charges $9.99 a month for its standalone TradingView add-on, and says that fee gives access to Tradovate Brokerage accounts. Prop accounts can be different: Tradeify says the integration is free for all Tradeify users. Lucid's setup pages we read don't mention a TradingView fee.

Accounts on Rithmic can't use this route. Tradeify says its Rithmic and Tradesea accounts cannot connect to TradingView. At Lucid, TradingView sits under the CQG platforms (NinjaTrader, Tradovate, TradingView), while Rithmic accounts use platforms like Quantower, Sierra Chart and R|Trader Pro.

Tradeify: step by step

Tradeify's requirements: an active Tradeify account with Tradovate access, the Tradovate credentials from your Tradeify welcome email, and a free or paid TradingView account. Tradeify says the integration works in web browsers and the app.

  1. Turn on the add-on. Log in to Tradovate (trader.tradovate.com) with your Tradeify credentials. In the menu, open Application Settings, find "TradingView Add-On" and click "Activate TradingView Add-On".
  2. Open TradingView. Log in, or sign up for a free account, and open a futures chart.
  3. Open the Trading Panel at the bottom of the chart, select Tradovate and click Connect.
  4. Pick "Demo". Tradeify: "Always select 'Demo' for Tradeify accounts."
  5. Sign in with the credentials shown at the top of your Tradeify dashboard, the same ones you use to log in to Tradovate.
  6. Check it worked. Tradeify says to look for a green connection light in the Trading Panel. Your balance should appear and should match your Tradovate dashboard, and the order fields should be active.

Keep Tradovate open. Tradeify tells traders to keep Tradovate in a separate browser tab, because "You cannot check and monitor your drawdown effectively in TradingView." It also warns the TradingView link may have slight delays, suggests using Tradovate directly for time-sensitive trades, and says to verify order fills in both. All of Tradeify's account rules still apply when you trade from TradingView. See Tradeify's payout and consistency rules.

Lucid: step by step

Lucid lists TradingView among its supported platforms and says "All listed platforms work with all Lucid account types." TradingView runs on the CQG data feed through Tradovate.

  1. Sign in to Tradovate first. Use the credentials from your Lucid email or dashboard. Lucid's setup guide: "If you're new to Lucid you must sign into Tradovate first even if you plan on trading on NinjaTrader or TradingView."
  2. Connect in TradingView. Open the Trading Panel, pick Tradovate, choose Demo (Tradovate's instruction for prop and evaluation accounts) and click Connect.
  3. Sign in on the Tradovate page with the same Lucid Tradovate login, then check that your Lucid account and balance show in the panel.

Lucid's pages we read don't give TradingView-specific steps beyond the Tradovate sign-in, so steps 2 and 3 follow Tradovate's own TradingView guide. Data fees: Lucid says non-professional traders don't pay for the exchange data feed, while a professional trader pays $112 a month per exchange (CME, CBOT, NYMEX, COMEX). Lucid's account rules still apply on every platform. See Lucid's payout and consistency rules.

Topstep: why you can't link TradingView

Topstep's help center is direct: "TopstepX™ is the only available trading platform." TopstepX charts use TradingView's charting and drawing tools, but in Topstep's words the platform "Cannot connect to external platforms like TradingView; custom indicators are not available due to TradingView's commercial licensing terms."

So you can't log in to your own TradingView account and trade a Topstep account from it, and indicators you built or bought on TradingView won't carry over. What TopstepX does give you, per the same article:

  • Up to 8 charts on one screen, with symbol linking between them.
  • 16 chart types, including candles, Heikin Ashi, Renko and Point & Figure.
  • TradingView's drawing tools, with a magnet mode that snaps to bar prices.
  • Timeframes from 1 minute to 1 month (1m, 2m, 3m, 5m, 15m, 30m, 1h, 4h, 1D, 1W, 1M; there is no 10m), and up to 1 year of chart history.

Data. Topstep covers Level 1 market data on all 4 exchanges at no cost on Trading Combine and Express Funded accounts. Level 2 (depth of market) is a $38 a month upgrade.

If trading from your own TradingView layout is a must, Topstep isn't the match. If you only want TradingView-style charts, they come built in. See Topstep's payout and consistency rules.

Free vs paid TradingView data

Two different things decide what you see on a TradingView chart linked to a prop account, and the sources talk about each one.

1. The market data on your Tradovate account. Tradovate says "You must have an active Tradovate market data subscription to view market data on TradingView. A separate TradingView data subscription is not required when using your Tradovate account on the TradingView platform." Lucid says the exchange data feed is included for non-professional traders.

2. Your TradingView plan. Tradeify says "The free version of TradingView will only update once every 5 seconds, for fully live updates you will need to be a TradingView subscriber (any package will suffice)." Tradeify's help center cites TradingView's Essential plan from $12.95 a month, and suggests a paid plan for scalping or fast markets, while a free plan may be enough for longer holds.

Put together: the Tradovate link itself can be free, but a free TradingView plan shows prices a few seconds late. If you scalp, that gap matters.

If it won't connect

  • You picked Live. Disconnect and connect again with Demo. Both Tradovate and Tradeify say prop accounts connect as Demo.
  • Your account is on Rithmic or Tradesea. At Tradeify those accounts can't connect to TradingView. You need a Tradovate-based account.
  • You never signed in to Tradovate. At Lucid, new traders must sign in to Tradovate first. At Tradeify, the add-on must be activated inside Tradovate before TradingView will connect.
  • Prices look slow. On a free TradingView plan, Tradeify says updates come about every 5 seconds. Check your data subscription status too.
  • Nothing is moving. Tradeify's checklist: check that the market is open for that contract and that your data subscription is active.
  • You can't see your drawdown. Expected. Keep Tradovate or the firm's dashboard open in another tab; Tradeify says TradingView isn't the place to monitor drawdown.
  • You trade at Topstep. There is no outside TradingView connection. Use the TradingView-based charts inside TopstepX.

Questions

Can I use TradingView with Topstep?

Not your own TradingView account. Topstep says TopstepX is its only platform and it cannot connect to external platforms like TradingView. TopstepX charts are built with TradingView's charting and drawing tools, but custom TradingView indicators aren't available.

Should I pick Demo or Live when connecting a prop account?

Demo. Tradovate's guide says prop firm and evaluation accounts should select Demo, and Tradeify says to always select Demo for Tradeify accounts.

Do I need a paid TradingView plan for a prop account?

Not to connect. Tradeify says the integration is free and works with a free TradingView account, but the free plan only updates about every 5 seconds. Any paid TradingView plan gives fully live updates.

Can a Rithmic account connect to TradingView?

Tradeify says its Rithmic and Tradesea accounts cannot connect to TradingView; you need a Tradovate-based account. At Lucid, TradingView is listed with the CQG platforms, which you reach through a Tradovate login.

Does Lucid support TradingView?

Yes. Lucid lists TradingView among its supported platforms and says all listed platforms work with all Lucid account types. New traders must sign in to Tradovate first, even if they plan to trade on TradingView.

Why can't I see my drawdown in TradingView?

TradingView shows the broker account, not the firm's rule tracking. Tradeify tells traders to keep Tradovate open in a separate tab because you cannot monitor your drawdown effectively in TradingView.
