The consistency rule formula, with a worked example
Two lines cover every firm's version of the rule:
Consistency % = best day ÷ total net profit × 100, which has to stay under the firm's percentage.
Profit needed = best day ÷ (percentage ÷ 100), which is how much total net profit makes your current best day legal.
Worked example, 40% rule (Tradeify Select). Your best day was $1,200 and your total net profit is $2,500. $1,200 ÷ $2,500 = 48%, over the line. Profit needed: $1,200 ÷ 0.40 = $3,000, so you need $500 more with no day above $1,200. Make $1,500 in one day instead and the new best day resets the sum: $1,500 ÷ 0.40 = $3,750.
Same numbers, 50% rule (Apex, Take Profit Trader, MFFU Rapid). $1,200 ÷ $2,500 = 48%, just under 50%, so you pass. The percentage is the whole difference, and it is why the firm choice matters as much as the trading.
Some firms measure against the profit target instead of your profit (Topstep's 55% Combine target, FundedNext Flex at 40% of the target): then the first formula is best day ÷ target, and the worked example becomes $1,200 ÷ $3,000 = 40%. The presets above use the right base for each firm.
How the math works
A consistency rule caps how much of your profit can come from one day. Divide your best day by your total net profit for the window the firm measures; the result has to stay at or under the firm's percentage (some firms say strictly under). To find the profit you need, divide your best day by the percentage: a $1,500 best day under a 40%% rule needs $3,750 of total profit, with no bigger day along the way.
Losing days count, because it uses net profit. Going over the line usually doesn't fail the account; the firm just won't pass you or pay you until you're back under. What a consistency rule is →

Questions
What is the prop firm consistency rule formula?
Consistency % = best day ÷ total net profit × 100, and it must stay under the firm's percentage. To find the profit you need, divide your best day by the percentage: a $1,200 best day under a 40% rule needs $3,000 of total net profit. A few firms divide by the profit target instead (Topstep's 55% Combine target).
How do I calculate a prop firm consistency rule?
Divide your biggest profitable day by your total net profit for the window the firm measures (the evaluation, or the period since your last payout). If that share is above the firm's percentage, you are over the rule. To see how much more you need, divide your best day by the percentage.
What is the Tradeify consistency rule?
Select evaluations: 40% (50% with the paid add-on). Growth funded payouts: 35%. Lightning funded payouts: 20%, then 25%, then 30% from the third payout. Select funded accounts (Flex or Daily) have no consistency rule.
What is the Apex consistency rule?
No single profitable day can be 50% or more of your net profit since your last approved payout. It applies to Performance Account payouts, not the evaluation. Going over hides the payout button until you are back under.
Which prop firms have no consistency rule?
Several drop it once you are funded. See our hand-checked list of prop firms with no consistency rule.
