Short readings are ours; the right-hand column is copied from each firm's own help center, FAQ or terms on Nov 6, 2026 (the arrow opens the page we read). "Not stated" means the pages we read don't say. Tap a firm for its full rules page.

How we checked

Each answer is one of the twelve fixed questions we keep on every firm's rules page, read from the firm's own help center on Nov 6, 2026 and re-read every Monday. We don't rank firms here and we don't infer a rule a firm hasn't written down: where the pages we read are silent, the row says so. If a firm changes its rule, its rules page and this table change together.

What is news trading in a prop firm?

Trading in the minutes around a scheduled economic release. The firms name the releases that matter: Take Profit Trader lists FOMC statements, NFP and CPI; Alpha Futures and The5ers use "high-impact (red folder)" events as marked on ForexFactory; Topstep, MyFundedFutures and TradeDay say "Tier 1". Apex defines the banned version as "news trading that chases the market or leaves orders on both sides to gamble on the release", and FXIFY as "high leverage news trading", gambling-size positions around news.

Which prop firms allow news trading?

With no window at all: Tradeify ("no restrictions on news trading"), Bulenox ("no blackout windows, no forced position closing, no penalties"), Earn2Trade, Elite Trader Funding and Purdia. Allowed with a style rule: Apex (no two-sided gambling), FXIFY (no high-leverage news gambling), Funded Futures Family (unless your plan says otherwise) and FundedNext Futures (standard models; some promo challenges ban it). Allowed on some plans only: Lucid (Flex, Pro and Direct, not LucidDaily). The remaining nine firms run a blackout window described below.

News trading rules: blackout windows, and evaluation vs funded accounts

One minute either side: Take Profit Trader (flat with no open orders around FOMC, NFP and CPI on PRO accounts) and Atlas (funded Daily only: positions opened in the window are closed and the profit deducted). Two minutes either side: Alpha Futures (no orders, Direct, Standard and Zero Qualified), FTMO (no order execution on FTMO Accounts), MyFundedFutures (flat with no orders on Tier 1 data, plus a ban on straddles and strangles), The5ers (no orders on High Stakes, profits deducted) and TradeDay (auto-liquidates two minutes before Tier 1 data and reopens two minutes after). Five minutes either side: FundedNext counts only 40% of profit from trades in the window on funded accounts. Unspecified short window: Topstep, which also bans trading your full maximum position size into a scheduled major release.

The rule often changes with the stage. Alpha Futures and FTMO have no news restriction during evaluations and add the window on funded accounts (FTMO's Swing accounts stay unrestricted). FundedNext's 40% rule applies to funded accounts only. Atlas restricts only funded Daily accounts, and Lucid's hard breach applies only to LucidDaily. Holding a position opened before the window is allowed at Alpha Futures, FTMO, The5ers and Atlas; TradeDay closes it for you.

Which news events count?

The firms point to the same calendar: Tier 1 or high-impact releases, the red-folder events on ForexFactory, with FOMC statements, non-farm payrolls and CPI named outright by Take Profit Trader. Fed speakers and FOMC minutes are allowed at Take Profit Trader. Our news calendar lists the red-folder releases in Eastern Time so you can see the windows before the session.

Questions

Which prop firms allow news trading with no restrictions?

Tradeify, Bulenox, Earn2Trade, Elite Trader Funding and Purdia say outright that they don't restrict trading around scheduled news. Apex, FXIFY, Funded Futures Family and FundedNext Futures allow it on their standard accounts with a ban on gambling-style two-sided or oversized news positions.

Which prop firms make you go flat around news?

Take Profit Trader (one minute either side of FOMC statements, NFP and CPI on PRO accounts), MyFundedFutures (two minutes either side of Tier 1 data, no orders), TradeDay (auto-liquidates two minutes before Tier 1 data and reopens two minutes after) and Topstep (a short restricted window around Tier 1 events).

Does Lucid allow news trading?

On Flex, Pro and Direct accounts, yes. On LucidDaily, trading red-folder news is a hard breach, per Lucid's own rules page.

Can I hold a position through news at a prop firm?

At Alpha Futures (Direct, Standard and Zero Qualified), FTMO (FTMO Accounts), The5ers (High Stakes) and Atlas (funded Daily) you may hold through the release; what's banned is placing or executing orders inside the window, usually two minutes either side. TradeDay closes open positions instead.

Do news rules differ between evaluation and funded accounts?

Often. Alpha Futures and FTMO have no news restriction during the evaluation and add the two-minute window on funded accounts. FundedNext counts only 40% of profit from trades within five minutes of high-impact news on funded accounts. Lucid allows news trading on Flex, Pro and Direct but treats it as a hard breach on LucidDaily.
